If you want to spend your holiday in Split or its surroundings and book a villa, Stobreč might be a great choice.

Trying to find accommodation in Split can sometimes be stressful, especially when you are coming last minute and most of the accommodation has already been booked. It is then advisable to search for alternate location for booking accommodation that is till near enough for us to quickly reach Split. Stobreč is definitely such a location. It is a small town right next to Split and it takes just five minutes to reach Split and some ten more to reach its centre. What's more, although it basically falls within Split city limits, Stobreč still has the atmosphere and charm of a small and relaxed Mediterranean town with lovely old centre, streets and beaches.

Stobreč provides an opportunity to enjoy the charm, peace and quiet of a small place yet be just a couple of minutes away from the bustling city life of a big town and all it has to offer. But Stobreč is also an interesting place with rich heritage – it is one of the oldest urban settlements in Croatia as it was founded on a small peninsula in 3rd century BC by the ancient Greeks from Issa (island of Vis) as a colony on the east coast of the Adriatic called Epetion and it has been inhabited ever since. There are remains of an ancient fortification wall from those times that can be seen in the north part of the peninsula. The most important monument that is still preserved is early Christian basilica from the 5th century, St. Lawrence church (and Stobreč is derived from that saint's name). Centuries have passed, houses were built, Stobreč grew and today it is much larger, but still a very nice place to visit and stay.

Location of Stobreč is also very interesting as it is situated along a rather large bay where Žrnovnica river flows into the Adriatic sea which is a feature not very common in Dalmatia. So if you choose to book an apartment or a villa in Stobreč, you will not only be able to enjoy swimming at its pebble beach and strolling down the promenade, there is a river with its lovely shores and vegetation right next to it for you to explore. Moreover, its spring is rather close and there are several mills still in function there where you can buy flour and discover beautiful nature. And as Stobreč is basically situated at the foot of Mosor mountain, it gives you a lot of opportunities to engage in hiking and exploring nature on foot. There are several hiking trails, mountain shelters and a mountain lodge so there are a lot of options for an active holiday in Stobreč. Split is just around the corner when you want to discover the urban side of the region or feel like going shopping or partying.

Stobreč is definitely worth discovering – at one place you have sea, river and mountain, excellent accommodation, lovely restaurants and bars, great beaches and all of that near Split, one of the most lively cities in Croatia. You can also go on excursions to nearby islands or discover the hinterland. One thing is sure, if you spend your holiday in Stobreč, you won't be bored.
