This small village is located on the very south of the Croatian coast, hidden in a 2 km gully bay. Slano is an excellent starting point for exploring southern Croatia. It is located near the peninsula of Peljesac, the Elaphite islands, the magical Mljet, as well as the Neretva's river delta. So you can jump to town Metković, taste frogs and river specialties, learn something about the famous Neretva's history or, together with thousands of visitors, to follow one of the biggest pirate manifestations at the famous "Marathon lađa" boat race. Slano has its millennial history. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times, so the remains of the Greek and Roman periods can be seen in the surrounding hills. The most important hitorical location is on the hill Gradina with beautiful view on the bay.
