Find out more about Primošten
Primošten is a small town of about 3000 inhabitants, situated on an islet connected to the mainland by an embankment.
Once surrounded by stone walls which served as a means of defense from the Turks, the only thing connecting historic Primošten with the mainland was a wooden bridge. In the 17th c. with the end of the Morean and Kandyan War, the threat of Turkish attacks ceased and the population in Primošten increased. Eventually, the embankment replaced the wooden bridge, the inhabitants partly returned to the hinterland to engage in farming, and Primošten was permanently connected to the mainland.
