For all those who still enjoy sightseeing of cultural and historical monuments nearby is the historic city of Dubrovnik, which in its rich history was known as the city-republic. Due to its monumentality and fortification system, this city was also an ideal location for filming the world-famous Game of Thrones series. The walls of Dubrovnik have been built for over 500 years, and in their history, they have never been broken into, which is why Dubrovnik was known as the safest city in Dalmatia.
Another attraction of this special city in the extreme south of Damatia is the famous city landmark, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This cathedral was built with a donation from the English King Richard the Lionheart after his life was saved in this city upon his return from one of his conquest missions. After the storm, the king found refuge in Dubrovnik, and as a thank you he decided to make a large donation with which this monumental cathedral was built.
