Discover culinary and wine treats in Skradin 25.09.2018.

If you are a real foodie, get ready to treat yourself when walking past the old town houses and villas. Skradin is an excellent place for wining and dining.

Nesting at Krka river mouth in Šibenik hinterland, Skradin is not just a convenient place to stay if you wish to visit Krka National Park and its many beauties during holiday. This small town has enough to keep you occupied for a couple of days. Due to its outstanding location at the mouth of river, Skradin is very popular among the yachtsmen as they can reach the Adriatic sea all the way from there. It may be small but it has charming stone streets with beautiful old houses and villas that will make you feel like you are in some movie about the Mediterranean a hundred years ago.

Being a popular place for berthing sailboats and mega yachts and a starting point for exploring Krka National Park are just some of the reasons why visitors are attracted to Skradin. The old town centre It is dotted with cafes and restaurants that offer relaxing atmosphere under the trees and among the old stone walls. Skradin is also a place where you can taste some of the finest dishes in Dalmatia, and take a sip of top-quality wine. And one dish from this part of Dalmatia is especially worth trying - Skradin risotto.

Skradin risotto is a local dish that is one of the finest traditional meals of Dalmatian cuisine. The known ingredients are regular ones that are used on daily basis, but the secret of this fine dish is the preparation length. The exact recipe is a well-kept secret, and only a handful of Skradin families and restaurants have it. What is known is that it has to be cooked from 8 to 10 hours, and prior to that, broth has to be made and that alone takes the whole day. Only the finest veal is used that is cooked until it starts falling apart and it is traditionally prepared by men only. Famous Antony Bourdain included this meal in the episode of his show where he visited Croatia and was very delighted by it. It is no wonder when you consider that up to five different types of meat can be used in preparation. It is also not available in restaurants during the entire year, as it is prepared for important feasts and holidays. One of them is Labour day (May 1st) so spending time in Skradin at that time of year is great opportunity to try this delicious meal.

Food is not the only good thing around here. Some of Croatian finest wineries are situated in Skradin surroundings and each year in July, Skradin Fine Wine Festival is being held, hosted by famous Bibich winery located near Skradin and Skipper's Club Arka. They wanted to organize an event that would gather friends, winemakers and chefs in order to attract more wine lovers coming to the town of Skradin. Needless to say that this event has been a success from the start – held in ACI marina the atmosphere is great, food and wine excellent, and there is no entrance fee.

Therefore, Skradin is ideal not just for discovering the beautiful nature of Croatia, but for treating oneself with the finest wines and food from Dalmatia too. It's an opportunity that is hard to resist.
