Another special gourmet Istrian specialty is truffle, an underground wild tuber that grows along the roots of trees. Although particularly bitter in taste, this underground gem is a very expensive gourmet delicacy that grows mostly in Italy and France, but its many finding can be found in Istria as well. You can see and experience all this in the truffle hunting tours that are organized throughout Istria in the autumn months.
